Dr. Armando Siqueiros named Medical Director for event

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — French Hospital Medical Center, a Dignity Health Member, is returning as an Official Sponsor and Medical Provider of the San Luis Obispo Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K presented by LeftLaneSports.com. Dr. Armando Siqueiros from French Hospital has been named the Medical Director for the event. He and nursing personnel will staff the First Aid tent at the SLO Life Expo and hospital staff will be on alert at their Johnson Avenue location (along the marathon and half route) for emergencies during race weekend April 5–7, 2013.

“French Hospital is a Top 100 hospital in the United States, a top 50 cardiac care hospital and an award-winning medical center in emergency care. We rest easy knowing that should something happen out on the course, our participants are in good hands with the French Hospital staff,” says Heather Hellman, SLO Marathon event director.

Dr. Siqueiros has a long history of running and coaching runners. He started running to keep up with his older brother and found he enjoyed the sport. He ran for Watsonville High School with best times of 4:32 mile, 9.21.6 for 2 miles and 14.34 for 3 miles. He started college at the Military Academy at West Point, but left there and wound up at UC Santa Cruz where he ran on the track team and became an All-American. Dr. Siqueiros attended UC Irvine for Medical School and continued running with best times of 3:45.8 for 1500 meters, 14.06 for the 5k and 29.12 for the 10k. He moved to San Luis Obispo in 1992 and continued running with the Aggie Running Club. When his son took an interest in running, he helped in the formation of the track team at Mission College Preparatory School and coached there for 6 years. One of his runners at Mission Prep was Jordan Hasay, the Oregon State track standout. Dr. Siqueiros is now coaching the Cal Poly Distance Club.

“French Hospital Medical Center is once again proud to support this event. As one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation and as one of the Top 50 Cardiac Hospitals in the Nation, we believe in supporting opportunities where our community members can practice good health, stay active and enjoy all that our beautiful Central Coast landscape has to offer,” says FHMC President and CEO Alan Iftiniuk.

French Hospital Medical Center will also be offering free lectures after the Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, about nutrition and diabetes prevention, cardiovascular health, as well as cancer prevention and resources.
