AVILA BEACH, Calif. — (March 2, 2016) — The SLO Gran Fondo presented by VisitAvilaBeach.com has opened registration for its third edition set for October 29–30, 2016. The annual fall classic cycling event, produced by Race SLO, features three routes — 25, 61 or 100 miles — that traverse over the scenic Central Coast of California. Last year, the SLO Gran Fondo was won by Cory Lockwood, 27, of Tehachapi, CA and Jane Despas, 50, of Menlo Park, CA, and Lockwood and Sara Bird of Los Altos, CA won the King and Queen of the Mountain titles.
“For our third edition, we expect a record number of 1,500 riders from all over the country and with our valued sponsors, volunteers and staff, we look forward to presenting the best and most exciting SLO Gran Fondo yet,” said Samantha Pruitt, Race SLO Founder & CEO. “In addition, our world famous cycling ambassador Bob Roll returns for the event weekend including the Saturday morning coffee ride, Pro Panel reception, awards ceremony and more!”
The PRO Panel Reception, slated for Saturday afternoon, October 29, features author, commentator and former professional Bob “Bobke” Roll along with numerous other pro riders sharing their humor, wisdom and insight with all attendees.
Post-ride, at the Avila Beach Golf Resort, there will be a first class recovery and celebration area that includes free bike valet and athlete washing tents, a 5-star chef’s hot Italian lunch by Buona Tavola, massage, local wine, Firestone Walker beer and music at the Festivale Italiano.
