Thank you for joining us for our 8th Annual San Luis Obispo Half Marathon + Half Marathon Relay Races, presented by Pacific Premier Bank and the Corporate Challenge Relay presented by Morris & Garritano along with the Race SLO 5K & Kids races. Whether you are a SLO local or out-of-town guest we are thrilled to have you with us! Our Race SLO Team works year-round to bring you an exceptional race experience. This year, you are among 3,000+ athletes from all over the USA. Our dedicated army of 1,000 local volunteers and staff members are truly fired up to support you and provide a truly unique Race SLO athlete experience. We have even added a new SLO YogaMusic Fest for Friday 3-9pm at the venue so you can start off the weekend right both body and mind. WooHoo!

Friday April 26th | Madonna Meadows

  • 9am-2pm: Vendor booth set up
  • 2-7pm: Volunteer check in
  • 3-9pm: SLO YogaMusic Fest (DJ’s, workouts, speakers, food & bev, performance art)

Saturday, April 27:

  • 6:30 am: Parking lot opens @ Madonna Meadows
  • 7:00 am – 9:00 am Late Registration & Packet Pick-Up for 5K and Kids Runs
  • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm: Half Marathon/Relay Packet Pick-Up & Late Registration
  • 8:30 am: Children’s 1-Mile Run (1-loop, Starts at Inflatable)   
  • 8:45 am: 5K Run/Walk (1-1/2 laps, Starts at Inflatable. Strollers welcome!)
  • 9:45 am: Children’s Quarter Mile Dash (Starts next to Tennis Courts)
  • 10:15 am: 5K Age Group Awards
  • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm: Festival open @ Madonna Meadows (Vendors, yoga, music, food, drink, free activities)

Sunday, April 28:

  • 3:00 am: Course Road Closures Begin in Town. Plan at least 30-45 extra minutes to get to the race!
  • 5:00 am: Parking Lot opens @ Madonna Meadows. First Come, First Served. NO RUNNER DROP OFFS ALLOWED AT MADONNA INN or START LINE AREA. (See below for detailed directions to start line and runner drop off specifics)
  • 5:30 am: Start Line Area, Athlete Staging Area & Drop Bags Open (UPS Truck Drop Bag Service near tennis courts)
  • 5:45 am – 6:30 am:  Late Registration and Packet Pickup open at Festival
  • 6:45 am: National Anthem & Announcements  
  • 7:00 am: START – Half Marathon + Relay races
  • 9:15 am: Hall of Fame Ceremony  & Overall and Age Group Awards
  • 11:00 am: Half Marathon/ Relay official course cut off – 4 hour limit  
  • 8:00 am – 12:30 pm: Festival open @ Madonna Meadows (Vendors, music, food, drink, activities, drop bag pickup)



Packet Pick-Up for all races will take place at the Race SLO Festival near the Finish Line at Madonna Meadows on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th.

A friend or family member can pick up your packet on Saturday with a copy of your registration confirmation plus a copy of your Photo ID. A Photo ID is required to pick up all packets, no exceptions. Parents must register and sign for all minors.

DIRECTIONS: Packet Pick-Up and Late Registration are all within the Race SLO Festival in the Madonna Inn Meadows near the Finish Line. Saturday is the best time to come by for easy access. Take the Madonna Road exit off of Hwy 101 (North and South). The address is 100 Madonna Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405. Follow all the signs and parking staff.

FESTIVAL PARKING: Parking for athletes and spectators is available at the Madonna Meadows all weekend long. Do not park at the Copper Café Restaurant, Hotel parking or block any other vehicles or you will be towed. Parking staff will direct you inside the property for pedestrian safety.

LATE REGISTRATION: Late registration is available online for all races until Thursday April 25th. After that – if the races are not sold out – you can come to the festival Saturday and late register in person.  HOWEVER, shirts and / or exact sizes are NOT guaranteed for any late registration. As you know, we have an exciting course prepared for you this year!  The Start AND Finish for the Half Marathon and Relay Races will be located on Madonna Road just outside the Madonna Inn!

All athletes and spectators will experience travel delays on Sunday morning! Plan to arrive and be parked by 6:15 am at the latest.  We close many of the roads and off ramps in town for YOUR SAFETY during the race. Help us by following the exact directions shown below on race morning to ensure you have a smooth and effective trip to the Race Start Line. (There are no road closures on Saturday, so come and pick up your packet then for sanity). The race will start promptly at 7:00 am!


ALL athletes and spectators will be parking in the Madonna Meadows grass parking area near the Festival. Athletes should expect delays and allow at least 45-60 extra minutes to get parked and to the Athlete Staging area.  The southbound off ramp at Madonna Road will be CLOSED.  The Marsh Street on-and off ramps will be CLOSED also.

  • Participants coming from north or south of San Luis Obispo should utilize Highway 101 and exit at Los Osos Valley Road.  Head north on Los Osos Valley Road and turn right on Madonna Road to access the parking area.
  • Participants coming from the south and/or east side of the City of San Luis Obispo should utilize either Tank Farm Road, right on S. Higuera OR South Street, left on Beebee Street, right on Bridge Street to access Madonna Road.  Head west on Madonna Road over the Highway to the parking area.
  • Participants coming from the north and/or west side of the City of San luis Obispo, Los Osos, Morro Bay, etc.should utilize South Bay Boulevard to Los Osos Valley Road and turn left onto Madonna Road to access the parking area.

Since the city roads and several freeway exits are being closed in various race course areas you need to follow the below specific instructions to ensure your trip to the Start Line if STRESS FREE.  Please review the Participant and Spectator Access Map for more information.


YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO MADONNA INN to drop off athletes. Athletes wishing to be dropped off by friends or family can do so at the Madonna Plaza Shopping Center located across Madonna Road from the Madonna Inn OR the Pacific Coast Center at Madonna Road and Higuera Streets.  Please pull completely into the Center’s parking areas to drop off, do not drop runners off on the surrounding streets as you will block others trying to access the Centers. Please review the Runner Drop-off Map for more information.


WEATHER UPDATE & PLANNING: Perfect running weather is on order for our 8th Annual Race Weekend! There is a predicted high of 72F and low of 51F degrees Race Day. At the start it will most likely be cool and no chance of rain. It may get breezy out on the course as the day unfolds as well as at the Festival afterwards so plan ahead with clean, dry layers in your lululemon drop bag for after. Utilize the great lululemon drop bag for all your start line & post-race clothing. Then, simply check your bib numbered bag with your clothes inside at the brown UPS trucks near the tennis courts and jump into your pace corral. It will be there at the finish line in the brown UPS trucks awaiting you. All races will take place rain or shine.

ATHLETE CARE & RECOVERY: Our valued sponsors and medical professionals from Dignity Health and SLO County Search and Rescue are honored to provide medical support to the all participants on the course and Finish Line, as needed. All medical professionals will be in Tan Shirts with a Large RED Cross and FIRST AID TEAM on the back. Please notify them if you do not feel well, need aid or see someone else struggling out on the course. We have mobile first aid providers, first aid stations at all relay exchange zones and a MEDICAL van on course.

Upon crossing the finish line, carry that fancy medal & snap a picture using our hashtag #EnduranceTownUSA. We will welcome you into the festival where the lululemon Athlete Recovery Lounge offers free Jamba Juice, massage. Relax with family and friends outside on the grass over a cold Firestone Walker Beer and some hot, fresh BBQ from Ribline!  Bring some extra cash as there will be other fresh food vendors selling snacks as well.

PACE TEAM: Pace Group Team Leaders are available for the Half Marathon. They are a free service we provide to make your race pace more consistent and goal focused. Our Pace Group Leaders are passionate and experienced runners and many of them paced our race the past six years. They will do their BEST to bring you across the finish line at your goal time, however, if you are trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon we suggest you pace yourself and do not rely on others. At race start you will see the Pacers with their NEON GREEN (Half Marathon) PACE TEAM shirts and designated race goal finish time held high on signs. Feel free to join them!

PACE CORRALS: Our MANDATORY Start Line pace corral system allows for a smooth race start for participants of varying levels. You are required to self-seed based on your estimated finish time to help ensure runner safety, lower your start line stress and ensure all athletes have the most efficient race start.  The Half Marathon and Relay Races will both enforce pace corrals and the corrals will be labeled for the Half Marathon predicted times. ALL RUNNERS will utilize the same corrals. Both our Challenged Athletes and Elite runners will be in the corral closest to the start line and walkers will be furthest from the start line. Your time WILL NOT start until you cross the timing mats at the Race SLO Inflatable Arch.

DROP BAG CHECK: Brown UPS Trucks will be parked in the Athlete Staging Area near the Madonna Inn tennis courst for you to check in your drop bag.  Remember to snap your bag close and attach the numbered sticker from your bib to the upper right corner of the drop bag. All drop bags will be transported to the Festival for you to pick up after you finish.  Using your race bib for identification, you can pick up your drop bag post-race at the same brown UPS Trucks. Please do not pack valuables, money, jewelry, cell phones, etc. as we are not responsible for lost, broken or stolen items. DO NOT FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR BAG POST-RACE. All uncollected bags will be donated within one week post-race to a local charity.

RACE RESULTS & TRACKING: We use the highest quality ‘chip on bib’ timing and track live results by Synergy Race Timing.  You must wear your bib on the front of your shirt, not on your back. ELITE athletes and overall race winners will be scored on GUN TIME. All Age Group competitors and all others will be timed using chip time. There will be results kiosks/boards set up at the Festival for all participants to use in looking up their results.  

Relay teams will have the same bib number with ‘chip on bib’ timing devices that will calculate the total team time as well as the individual splits for the entire team.  There is nothing to exchange at the relay exchange points except a high five and/or a hug. Make sure the relay runner crosses the timing mat prior to the next runner leaving.  Relay participants should review the Relay Information Packet on our website for all relay details.

TIMING SPLIT MATS:  Out on the Half Marathon course there are 2 split mats (mile 4.5 and 8.4).  All athletes who wish to contest time and results must do so in writing within 72 hours post-race via email to Synergy Race Timing.


RACE SHIRTS: Half Marathon and Relays and 5k participants all receive short-sleeve shirt. Children’s race participants receive a short sleeve cotton shirt. All shirts must be picked up at Packet Pick-Up at the Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Shirts sizes are marked on your race bib and we will do our best to provide you the exact shirt size you requested. Shirts for late registration athletes will be on a first come- first served basis. On Sunday AFTER the race, we will have a shirt exchange available at the SLO Marathon tent next to the Recovery tent in case you decide you need a different size (based on leftover availability). No exchanges will be made prior to Sunday.

OFFICIAL MARATHON MERCHANDISE: Our official SLO Marathon merchandise is available for sale now online as well as at the Race SLO Festival in the Left Coast T’s tent all weekend long. They will include a discount coupon in each athletes drop bag. Official 2019 FINISHERS shirts are limited and will sell out.

RACE AWARD CATEGORIES: This year we have Challenged Athletes and Military / First Responder (1st place only, male and female) competitive categories. To ensure you are listed and included in either of those two categories for Overall Male and Female awards, you must let us know in advance at Packet Pick-Up. All others will be included in the Age Group Awards only. Double Dipping is allowed. If you ordered an iTab of your time, you will receive it in the mail post-race.

There are also awards for Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge Relays (Top 3 Teams in the Male, Female and Co-ed categories).

AWARD TIMES: Awards are held on stage at 10:15am on Saturday (5k) and 9:15 am Sunday (Half and Relays).

HALF MARATHON COURSE TIME LIMIT: The Half Marathon and Relays have a 4-hour time limit. Course will be closed at 11:00 am.  To ensure walkers meet this cut off they must cross the mile 7.8 point (at Islay Park on the way ‘out’) by 9:30 am or they will be asked to turn around early (cutting off approximately ½ mile) and return to the finish line or hopping into the SWEEP VAN.  The SWEEP VAN is also available to pick up athletes not wanting or able to finish the race throughout the day.

AID STATIONS AND RESTROOMS: There will be 5 on-course aid stations for the Half Marathon and Relay.  There will be port-o-johns at the start, finish and at every aid station along the course. Each of these aid stations provides purified Culligan Water, Blueberry Pomegranate flavored FLUID Sports Drink and CLIF Shot & Honey Stinger Gels. Tables will be labeled FLUID or H2O. We use small cups at aid stations and only fill them halfway so we highly suggest you race green and carry your own bottle. Our volunteers are prepared to help fill your bottle. DO NOT LITTER. Please carry your trash to the next aid station or put trash in the trash cans provided.  

COURSE MARKING AND DIRECTIONS: Our certified course is either completely closed or closed to through traffic. Half Marathon mile markers are placed at every mile and a variety of signage, road paint and volunteers will direct you at every turn. Please be aware that the Half Marathon shares the same course as the Half Marathon Relay. We have a professional traffic control company, SLOPD and CHP along with 150 course marshals working for your safety race day. However, there are several spots on the Half Marathon course where residents can drive onto the route to get in and out of their driveways. Be aware at all times! Wearing earbuds or headphones will limit your ability to hear faster runners or vehicles approaching you and potentially jeopardize your safety. USA Track & Field rules state that those competing for prize money shall not be allowed to wear headphones. ELITE and competitive runners must NOT wear headphones, receive outside aid, have a pacer or they risk penalty.

VOLUNTEERS: If you are bringing family or friends with you and they would like to volunteer, have them register NOW on our website HERE. Only registered official volunteers will be allowed on course, at aid stations or in other valuable roles throughout race weekend.

RACE SLO FESTIVAL VENDORS: There are more than 30 product, service and food vendors at the Festival Saturday and Sunday with great products and services for your healthy lifestyle. Be sure to visit them all.

RACE WEEKEND TRANSPORTATION: Visit the HERE for special Marathon bus routes, destinations, bus stops and parking will be available.  

LOST & FOUND: Lost & Found will be at the Information Customer Service table near Packet Pick-Up Saturday and at the SLO Marathon pop-up tent on Sunday.

DOGS: Dogs of any size are NOT ALLOWED (even on a leash) at the Race SLO Festival all weekend for both safety and the courtesy of others. If you bring them, you will be asked to take your pooch to your car, sorry! Service dogs with proof of documentation only.
